It was established in 1954 by İshak Alaton and Üzeyir Garih as a collective company in ‘Bankalar Caddesi Vefai Han’ in Istanbul. In the first years, the main business line was heating, air conditioning and cooling. It became a holding in 1973 and went public in 1974. Alarko Real Estate Investment Trust, established within the holding in 1997, is the first REIT company to be traded on the ISE (now BIST). In 1998, the industrial group of the holding became an equal partner with Carrier, one of the largest air conditioning companies in the world.
As of 2014, it operates in the fields of contracting, energy, industry, tourism, aquaculture and real estate. In addition, the Alarko Education-Culture Foundation (ALEV) was established in 1986 to take part in social responsibility projects within the holding.
