In 1891, the Bolsa de Valores do Porto (Oporto Stock Exchange) was founded in Oporto. After the military coup on 25 April 1974, both Lisbon and Porto stock exchanges were closed by the revolutionary National Liberation Junta, but reopened a few years later.
