Kleros provides an agent service for Dapps and their users. If the service provided by the application does not create a dispute, Kleros acts only as a trusted third-party service (escrow) for payment.
If a dispute arises, each party may unilaterally apply for arbitration through Kleros. Arbitrators (jury members) are selected from among holders of PNK tokens (Kleros’ ERC-20 token) who register with arbitration courts specializing in certain types of disputes. This service has a cost to be paid in ETH (arbitration fees) withdrawn from funds (escrow) provided by the parties to the dispute or previously locked.
The PNK token is an Ethereum-based ERC-20 token: a utility token with a fixed supply (1B units) and not exchangeable for ether. Kleros has created economic incentives for PNK token holders to hope to profit through their work (earning arbitration fees as a Jury member) or by betting on the growth of the Kleros project and thus arbitration instances. During this period, swap tokens cannot be used (reducing the current supply).
