Şişecam Group is an industrial group whose main fields of activity are glass and chemical production. The Group is the leader in Turkey in business lines covering all basic areas of glass such as flat glass, glassware, glass packaging and glass fiber, as well as the production of glass raw materials (sand, dolomite, limestone, feldspar, soda and chromium compounds).
In October 2020, Anadolu Cam, Denizli Cam, Trakya Cam, Soda Sanayii and Paşabahçe brands, which are subsidiaries of Şişecam but operating as separate companies, merged with Şişecam under one roof.
On February 17, 1934, by the decision of the Council of Ministers, Türkiye İş Bankası was appointed to establish the domestic glass industry in Turkey. The factory, which made its first production on July 4, 1935, went into operation with a production capacity of 3000 tons, while Turkey’s glass consumption was 3500 tons at that time. From the first years, production was based on manual labor in the factory, which only produced bottles and glasses.
Mass production was started with the machines purchased in 1954 and the production capacity increased to 5000 tons. However, despite these investments, the factory’s transition to flat glass production technology took place in 1968. Bottle packaging production with the Pilkington flat glass production technique, known as the British technique, started in the new factory opened in Istanbul’s Topkapı district, thus increasing the production capacity. Since the 1980s, not only glassware and kitchenware, but also all areas of the glass industry have been produced.
